Audio Review

—
Every sound the Tower makes, played through the client's own player (assets/vfx/afx_bank.js, the contract in codex/AFX_SPEC.md) at the gains the data asks for — a bed at its Gain, an event at its Gain, a bank clip at g1. Since 2026-09-25 every clip shares one ceiling (#993, D: "they should all share a max loudness"): the player trims each row from its measured LUFS / Play_Peak_dBFS to −18 LUFS, never above −1 dBFS, before any g or Gain applies — so what you hear here at g1 is the ceiling, and Peak_dBFS / Over3k_Pct describe the file under it (codex/AFX_SPEC.md, rule 3). Since 2026-09-25 (#994) a layer's d is where its hit lands: the bank's Onset_Ms column (the clip's attack, the first sample at −12 dB re its peak, from the same decode) is what the player pre-rolls each voice by, so a clip with 100 ms of lead-in authored at d200 hits at 200, not 300 — 487 of the 1221 compositions were more than a frame late that way; codex/afx_sync_audit.csv is the table. Since 2026-09-28 (#994, #993) a move sounds like its creature, its name and its effect, judged on each clip's measured features: the two synthetic sci-fi booms (AFX-495 / AFX-526, 206 move layers, most of them a boom at the end of a move that does not explode) are off every move — an explosive move ends on a recorded bang, any other on its own settle sound — no physical or voiced move hits with a chiptune blip, a named element is heard at every stage, a voiced move carries a creature voice and a bite a bite; 292 of 419 rows re-assigned, per-move record in codex/afx_character_audit.csv (codex/AFX_SPEC.md, Character). The battle.victory event is a short soft pizzicato phrase (AFX-377, 0.80 s), no longer the floor gate's latch. Licences and provenance: codex/AUDIO_LICENCES.md. Since 2026-10-01 (#1041) a boss fight has a bed of its own (D: "Need a boss battle song") — bgm.csv's State=boss row, assets/bgm/boss.wav, synthesized by dfmc-client tools/afx_boss_bgm.py with nothing to licence; the client plays it for exactly as long as the fight is on and returns to the zone bed after, so every other screen keeps the 2026-09-24 zone rule. The same report retired the last generic creature sound a boss rang: a boss has no cry, and the cry fallback had kept battle.start (the 12 kHz screech) on every boss opening. Since 2026-10-01 (#1035) the devour cue is a bite — bank clip AFX-615 Eat 02, 0.39 s, rung twice — not the dungeon's 4.7 s gurgle D heard as water. A move's composition is not reviewed here — it is reviewed against its picture, which is the only place the two can be judged as one thing.
